Principal’s Desk
It is my privilege to welcome you to Chhatrapati Shivaji College, Satara which was founded in June 1947 by the visionary founder of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara, Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil. He established this college with a view to open the vistas of higher education for the people from mofussil areas of Maharashtra. The history of college is an inspiration by itself. He started the college as a ‘Free and residential’. Later on from 1951 due to some difficulties it was decided to charge fees. It was the time when the growth of higher education needed strong, decisive push. The upper classes denied the right to education to the masses. The economic stresses would come in the way of seeking higher education. Karmaveer offered a precious solution to this problem by introducing ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’ for the needy students from economically and socially depressed classes of society. Since its very inception the College is striving to educate and empower the rural sections of society.
We promote quality education in response to the changing scenario of society. As per its mission and core values it imparts secular, liberal, progressive education to the rural students. It inculcates pluralistic and multicultural outlook among students for healthy society. This has resulted in producing good number of citizens, political leaders, activists, social workers, officers, teachers, lawyers and administrative officers in Maharashtra.
The college is accredited in the Third Cycle of accreditation at ‘A+’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore with CGPA of 3.51 in 2017. The UGC, New Delhi has awarded the college the status of ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ and Shivaji University, Kolhapur has awarded the status of a ‘Lead College’. The UGC, New Delhi has conferred on the college autonomous status from the academic year 2019-2020. Under autonomy from 2019 the college has brought a change in the syllabus by introducing various skills useful for employability.
The college executes the curriculum effectively. It has upgraded teaching-learning and evaluation. It has enhanced the research potential of faculty and students. The student centric activities have supported the students and also resulted into their progression towards further education. The NCC and NSS units try to nurture various abilities of students. The learning resources and infrastructure have played crucial role in the development of the college. The college has followed the policy of inclusive education through its ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’. The infrastructure is developed as per the needs and the availabilities of funds to make the learning resources rich. The high number of merit holders and rankers reflects the outcomes of teaching, learning, evaluation. From its inception 688 students are selected through Prin. Mrs. Sumatibai Patil and Prin. Barr. P. G. Patil Competitive Examinations Guidance Centre. The college has received awards for its magazine Shiv Vijay as the best magazine of Shivaji University. We are proud of our success in sports also. Our Students have bagged medals and awards at state and national level.
We take efforts for fulfilling our Sanstha’s vision of educating the youths and inculcating ‘Rayat Culture’ in them. I am glad to call you to be the part of this culture. I look forward to our journey ahead together and I am confident this will be a mutually enriching experience!
